Ilkeston Town are delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Sam Newell, subject to NPL and FA approval.
Newell arrives at the Microlise New Manor Ground following his departure from National League North side Alfreton Town, where he played an important role in the Reds’ strong finish to the 2025/26 campaign, helping the club put together a seven-match unbeaten run to end the season.
Since joining the Robins during pre-season, Newell has quickly established himself as a standout performer, finding the back of the net in each of Ilkeston’s opening four pre-season fixtures while impressing supporters and the management team with his energy, technical quality and eye for goal.
Assistant Manager Aaron Large believes the midfielder will be a perfect fit for the Robins’ style of play.
“Sam left Alfreton in the summer and we made contact with him early. Since he’s come in, he’s been superb, so when the opportunity arose to sign him permanently, it was a no-brainer for us.
“He suits the way we want to play, brings loads of energy and is comfortable using both feet. He’s excellent on the ball, has a real eye for goal and has scored in every game so far.
“On top of that, he brings genuine technical quality to the squad, and we’re delighted to have secured his signing.”
Speaking after completing the move, Newell said:
“I’m grateful for the opportunity and faith shown in me by the club and management staff. I can’t wait for the season to get started!”
Everyone at Ilkeston Town would like to welcome Sam to the Robins and wish him every success in red and white.
