Ilkeston Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Matt Thornhill.
The former Basford United captain arrives at the Microlise New Manor Ground after nine years at Greenwich Avenue with the Ambers.
Upon signing for the Robins, Thornhill said: “I know a lot of the boys from playing against them previously, I’ve played against Ilkeston a lot. This is a new venture for me and I can’t wait to get started.
“I’ve known Deaks for a long time, since I was about 12/13 from when we were at Forest, so it was a no-brainer for me. I know all the coaching staff, had a few conversations with them and yeah it made sense.”
Pleased to make his first signing of the summer, Deakin said: “Matt is a fantastic player, even at 36 I think his quality is unrivalled in this position, in this league.
“He’s got so much experience – leader, captain and his quality on the ball, out of possession and organising is unbelievable. He is going to make a huge difference.”
Highlighting the midfielder’s five years as a professional at the City Ground, Deakin added: “I know him from my time at Forest, he’s been at Brighton and had a good career. He will bring massive experience to this side and hopefully enhance it even more.”
