We play our first home league game of the season on Saturday as Suffolk side Leiston make the long trip to the Microlise New Manor Ground, kick-off 3pm.

Both clubs began their SPL Central campaigns last week, the Robins drawing 1-1 at Tamworth and Leiston winning 3-2 at home to Nuneaton Borough.

This will be the first time the two clubs have ever met, with Leiston having been playing at step three since the 2012/13 season when they were initially in the Isthmian League Premier before moving laterally to the Southern League in 2018.

The visitors are joint-managed by Chris Wigger and former Premier League star Darren Eadie, and finished seventh in the SPL Central last season, just five points outside the play-off zone.

Ilkeston boss Martin Carruthers said: “The reports we’ve had about Leiston are that they’re a very good footballing side and that they’ll be around the play-offs this season.

“It’s the first of many games at the Microlise NMG this season and although we know it will be tough, we hope we can put in a good performance and get a very valuable three points.”
